Thank You For Being a Friend

This month’s Sew The Show is a special one, because it’s my last one. In fact, it’s my farewell to all of you (more about that in a minute). That’s why I chose…

I know, right now you are probably looking at the screen like this:

But just hear me out. This is one of my most beloved shows. I watched it all the time in college. There was no problem so large that a cheesecake among 4 friends couldn’t fix, and I needed that at that time of my life. These women are such bright, vibrant characters, and their wardrobes are actually quite chic! Take this look of Dorothy’s:

The shape and essence of that dress (suit?) can be found in this more modern style:

What about this sequined number on Blanche?

You can totally find stuff like that at any trendy store now!

Sew the Show is about thinking outside the box. You don’t have to dress like an old lady to be inspired by the costumes on this show. Bright, floral prints, boxy shapes and flowy robes that were so prevalent on this show are making a comeback right now, so it’s the perfect time for this challenge! Come along with me won’t you?

Now for the big news:

This blog has meant so much to me, and I love you all to pieces, but it’s time for me to move on. I’ve always loved fashion, and blogging about it has opened my eyes to so many things, and I just have to explore more. SO…I’m going back to school. I’m starting at our local university in the fall, studying Fashion Merchandising. The program there is fantastic and there are even 4th year internships at some pretty amazing companies (like Vogue!). I have no idea where any of this is going to take me, but I can’t wait to find out. I’ll pop in from time to time to say hi and show you what I’m working on, but starting in June this blog will be on hiatus. If you want to keep in touch and see what I’ve been sewing you can follow me on Instagram.

I’ll be back next week with news on Sew the Show May prizes. Thank you for being a friend <3

  1. I wish you the very best In your next adventure! In the meantime, I’ll be connecting with my *Dorothy* style! Pop in when you can, OK?

  2. Congratulations to you! Going back to school for something you are so excited about is an amazing opportunity and takes such hard work! Way to go! I will miss reading this blog but I am IG obsessed so I will be following you there for sure! Also, love the golden girls! I haven’t been participating in sew the show because with a 4 month old and 2 year old my sewing time is pretty limited these days, and focused on making tiny adorable things for them, but I have loved following along!

  3. Good luck with your next adventure — it will be so exciting! I am extremely bummed that you won’t be around blogland anymore and that Sew the Show is ending (my favorite sew along yet!), but sounds like there are amazing things in store for you!

  4. WOW! That is HUGE! Congratulations! Such a wonderful plan.
I look forward to seeing your creations, maybe even in stores someday.
As for the Golden Girls…that was MY favorite show! I even still sing the theme song to my girls some times (you know, when I’m feelin’ sassy).

  5. HOW EXCITING!! What a great opportunity for you! And what a loss for us, I sure hope you post occasional updates 🙂 I’d love to follow your journey. Especially since you’re pursuing a dream that I share too!

  7. I only recently discovered your blog so will enjoy the archives as you embark on your new adventure. I loved Sew the Show and wish I’d been able to participate. Just not enough time in the day sometimes to sew.

  8. I am so excited for you Alida! You are going to rock it! I love your show choice too. I watched the Golden Girls all the time too. Their jump suits and blouse-y clothes are so in vogue now too, which is funny.

  9. Wow! I love the show idea and will miss your blog. But congratulations! I, too, want to go to school for fashion more design and marketing, but I still have kids at home so I am waiting for that window to appear. It is such a scary thing to decide to do things like this later on so I wish you the best, and you rock those young thangs out of the water

  12. Dear Alida. I’ve enjoyed your blog because you give of yourself when you write. You have touched more people than you know. I can understand the need to do more for yourself now after a roller-coaster ten years. I hope you and your family go from strength to strength. L x
