Hey y’all! If you follow me on Instagram you know I’m making Caroline a handmade fall wardrobe this year. (Make sure you come back next week for the big reveal!) When Mie asked me to be a part of Sewing For Kindergarten I knew it was the perfect opportunity to debut her first handmade outfit! I have to be honest here: my kids wear school uniforms. They don’t have to be a certain brand, but they have strict rules about each piece of clothing. For instance, they can wear polos, dresses, pants and sweaters as long as they are red, blue, white or khaki. They have to be solid colors and they cannot have visible logos.
When I was planning this outfit I decided I would make two out of the three pieces uniform compliant so she can wear them to school. Because really if I’m sewing for kindergarten but she can’t wear it to kindergarten that doesn’t make much sense. The khakis and the cardigan are both “legal” (believe me I have read and re-read the rules 100 times to make sure!) The tiger shirt is my favorite piece in Caroline’s whole Fall Wardrobe so far. (The fabric is Cotton + Steel, BTW.)
Shoes: TOMS Gold Glitter Classic 007013D11-GOLD (afflink)
Do you feel like crying or celebrating? I’m definitely celebrating! She is going to learn so much this year, and I’m excited to watch her grow.
And what about your child? She is ecstatic to be in school. She started last Wednesday and has had nothing but positive things to say! (It helps that in Montessori there are 3 years per classroom, so she’s been in the same room with the same teacher for 2 years already.)
What type of school (public, private, homeschool) will your child attend? My children go to a Montessori public charter school. It’s a Montessori education but because it’s a charter school it’s FREE! The only downside: it’s 45 minutes away. That’s a loooot of driving.
What was your own first day of school like (if you remember ;-)? I actually missed my first day of Kindergarten because I had the chicken pox! I was so mad. I remember when I finally got there I remember thinking what’s all the fuss about? It’s just like my preschool.
Make sure you go by Sewing Like Mad for more Sewing For Kindergarten. Do you see this line up?? So much talent!
