Spring Showers Jacket Pattern

Spring Showers Rain Coat

Hey y’all! Did you ever start a project and half way through realize it’s never going to work and scrap it? That’s what I did with the jacket before this y’all, so I can attest to the fact that sometimes throwing in the towel can be a good thing!

You see, I was asked to test E&E Patterns’ Spring Showers Jacket and for the life of me I could not find any rain coat material. The closest thing I could find was ripstop, which is the devil to work with. After putting together the outside of the jacket completely I decided life was too short to use ripstop (like, ever), so I went to an unconventional fabric source. Target.

I found myself in the shower curtain aisle, and found this amazing honey comb fabric. I knew it had to be mine. BONUS: it was only $15. With more than enough fabric for this project. It’s not waterproof, but more water resistant, so I sprayed the whole thing down with Scotchguard once I was done.

This pattern is great! It’s not a quick project, took me about 4.5 hours to complete, but sooo worth it. I absolutely love all the details of the jacket. The curved back hem, the top stitching, the visor, I just can’t get over how awesome it is. And most importantly Charlotte adores it!

So, I need you to immediately GO GET THIS PATTERN.

  1. As always, your creativity blows me away, Alida! I think I’m going to have to go shower curtain shopping! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing version of my pattern.

  2. What a great idea, lovely fabric 🙂 Did you get the idea to Scotchguard a shower curtain after you made your raincoat/trench for Project Sewn?

  3. Who knew you could make a shower curtain look this good? I think that’s appropriate information for a resume “Able to turn a household shower curtain into a trendy raincoat.” Seems totally legit to me. Great job. <3

  4. Wow. This looks great. And the shower curtain as fabric? Why haven’t I thought of this before?!? I’ve also been on the lookout for a fabric for an autumn/spring coat that would protect me from the pesky rain. Now I know where to look! Thank you! 🙂

  5. Super gorgeous! I though I had seen that pattern before but couldn’t place it. Gotta check out the shower curtain isle more often 🙂

I love feedback! What did you think of this article?
