Out and About Dress Black and White

Hey y’all! Today I’m part of the Out and About Dress Pattern Tour on Sew Caroline. Let me tell you right here and now…I love this pattern.

Black and White Dress

I went back and forth trying to figure out what length I should make the dress, and then I remembered how long it had been since I shaved my legs and opted for a maxi ;-). Maxi dresses feel even better than yoga pants to me. I live in them during the Summer.

I opted for elbow length sleeves for this one, even though warmer weather is coming (so they say. With snow in the forecast for the South today I have my doubts.) I used Girl Charlee Ponte De Roma, which is a nice substantial fabric. It’s thick and heavy for a knit but it sews like a dream! The pattern is true to size, although as usual I was between two sizes. It was between medium and large, and I chose large because the Ponte De Roma is not that stretchy. If I had a stretchier knit I would sew the medium. Also, if you use Ponte De Roma for this pattern you will have to cut the neckband several inches longer (mine was 2.5″ longer) to make up for the fact that the fabric is not that stretchy.

I’m going to sew up a couple more of these and they will be my go-to church dresses. Oh, and did I mention there are pockets? I love dresses with pockets.
