Hangout Hoodie Grudge Match

It’s time for us to see…
Jessica and I decided to try to Hangout Hoodie by Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop.  Neither of us had ever sewn it before so it was an even playing field.

When I saw the pattern I knew immediately I had to make one for sweet Ellie.

As I’ve mentioned, Ellie is not a fan of pink.  Yes, even at 2 she’s quite opinionated.  She seems to like clothing with bold prints, and I just happened to have a couple of scraps of this striped fabric I designed on Spoonflower, it worked out perfectly.

I decided to use the cheetah fabric for the sleeves, partially because I thought it would look cool and partially because I ran out of striped fabric.

I wish I had used a sturdier knit for the hood placket.  It was a little flimsy and wrinkled easily.  Oh well!

Ellie didn’t want to wear the hood…it covered up her ponytails.

One piece of advice if you decide to use this pattern in the toddler sizes, I would consider going a size up if your toddler has a chubby tummy.  I ended up making Ellie the 3t instead of the 2t because I started out on the 2t but it was too snug on her baby gut.  I love the way the sleeves contrast the body.

Here’s the one Jessica of Me Sew Crazy made, much more refined than mine.

I love the clean design, the awesome walkman, and the                 heather gray ribbed knit.  Definitely using ribbed knit for the hood placket next time!  So, who sewed it better?  I think it’s a tie…maybe we’ll need a re-match.

Can ya handle that Jess?!?!

  1. I love the orange knit with those stripes. Like you said, it’s ok bad it wasn’t a rib or heavier so the hoodie would stand up a bit, but really if she doesn’t want the hood up then no one will notice. 🙂

  2. ReMATCH! ReMATCH! ReMATCH! (Can you hear me chanting!?!) I love BOTH of your looks! I love your honesty, too! I apologize that this is the first time that I’ve really ever been to your blog! I didn’t realize what I was missing!

  3. That cheetah fabric is just to die for and I just love how you’ve paired it up with stripes. There is clearly no winner here. Better get started on the next match-up!

I love feedback! What did you think of this article?
