Basic Blazer by Melly Sews

Basic Blazer Sewing Pattern : Alida Makes
Yesterday I had the opportunity to test another pattern for Melly Sews, this time a fully-lined blazer.  I was a little intimidated at first, but the pattern was awesome, easy to follow, and the results were pretty stellar!

At first I was going to go to the fabric store and find some super cool fabric to use, but then I remembered the GIGANTIC pile of fabric in my sewing room and decided to shop up there instead.  The brown canvas was the original plan…until I had cut everything but the sleeves and I was about 2 inches shy of the amount I needed.  GRRR!

Then I remember a faux leather jacket that was in the Goodwill pile and decided it would be awesome if the sleeves and collar were leather!  It ended up with a decidedly 80’s vibe that I totally dig.

The lining was an old white tab top curtain that got a makeover courtesy of a DIY foam stamp and some fabric paint.

I was going to make a tutorial for it, but there’s already a great one HERE on Papernstitch.

  1. I love this! And I also agree with Alicia, how did Gabe get to be so handsome?! Total rock star. Isn’t it funny how sometimes making a pattern mistake, like not enough fabric, can turn out the best result when you improvise! I love, love how this turned out! It is so cool!

  2. This is such a cool guy jacket. I’m always looking for age appropriate clothing to make for my growing boys that doesn’t look too “kiddie”. Thank you for this. Great idea!

  3. Thank you for getting back to me. It’s the Melly one with brown canvas and faux leather. (I also put this is an email so please forgive the repetion!)

I love feedback! What did you think of this article?
